About The Women's Personal Defense Center

A Short Biography of The Founder

Myrna Boyer

Myrna Boyer is a 4th Degree Black Belt who began her martial arts career in 1972. Her interest in the Arts became a passion when she returned to her studies and training after a hiatus during the 1990’s. In 2004, Ms. Boyer opened the doors to Hsin Lu Tao Academy of Martial Arts, and shortly thereafter, began offering free personal defense workshops to women and teen girls as a part of her Academy’s interest in providing a worthwhile service to the community.

The motivation for these defense workshops was a very personal one. In 1993, Ms. Boyer survived a vicious domestic violence attack which left her unable to eat solid foods for over three weeks. Understanding first-hand what it is like to suffer both the attack itself and its inevitable consequences, she became intimately committed to teaching women the art of their own defense.

Since then, Ms. Boyer and her team of instructors have trained literally hundreds of women in simple, effective techniques that not only save lives but, more importantly, transform the mindset from one of potential victim to one of authoritative conviction in an ability to secure personal safety. It is Ms. Boyer’s insight on the role of mindset in the face of a critical encounter that brings an entirely new—and decisively successful—approach to any woman who seeks to secure her own protection.

In August of 2007, Ms. Boyer was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame, in Las Vegas, NV, as Female Instructor of the Year. She launched the Women’s Personal Defense Center in 2008 as a part of her continued efforts to provide resources to women who seek personal empowerment and peace of mind in a world filled with what-ifs.

Currently, she lectures and continues to teach as the Master Instructor of Hsin Lu Tao and, in its sister organization, the Women’s Personal Defense Center. Additionally, she is writing a book titled Woman & Warrior: A Guide to Mental, Emotional and Physical Safety. She encourages you to contact her at any time.
